The Commodore's Newsletter December 2019

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope that all your arrangements are going well and that you are looking forward to the holiday period.

This will be a short newsletter compared to the rather extended one last time. I just wish to highlight what is happening at the Club over the Christmas and New Year period.

Before I do that, I need to thank our amazing Social Committee team. The events that they have put on have been thoroughly enjoyed by many Club members. The Christmas decorations in the Club House transforms our social areas and takes much time and effort. The Club Dinner and Dance was a great success and I hope that you have already booked your tickets for New Year’s Eve.

If you have not enjoyed our Club’s catering in the last few months you have really been missing out. The quality and value for money that we now offer are quite frankly amazing. Please take the opportunity to enjoy our menus I know that you will be back!

I hope that you will have received the email of what is on over the holiday period, I would like to highlight some of the events.

The Children’s Christmas Party 22nd December. If you haven’t booked your tickets, you need to now. Christmas Eve Carols. A very popular evening at the Club. Gather round the piano and enjoy Carols and some refreshment.

New Year’s Eve Party 31st December tickets are on sale now.

27th December The Commodores Youth Challenge. This is the 25th Anniversary of the Challenge and the Challenge between the youth teams of Parkstone and Poole will be preceded by the “Alumni” teams of our Clubs with as many of the original teams from 25 years ago as possible competing in a best of three races, as a curtain raiser.

Please go on the water to watch and cheer. If you don’t have a boat, you may be able to jump on one of the boats going out. If not, you should get a good view from the bund wall. The first race is due to start around 10.00ish.

Race food will be available after the Challenge if you wish to eat at the Club.

The racing will be followed by prize giving in the Club and the 25th Anniversary Celebrations.

Steve Thompson has provided an information sheet and a “simple” guide to match racing. Please read and memorise. Thank you, Steve, most helpful.

Club racing is on over the holiday period, please check the sailing programme for details. On other matters:
Please, please, please respect our common-sense rules. It makes everyone’s enjoyment of our amazing facilities a real pleasure. Do always keep your dog on a lead, including the bund walls, keep your phones on silent and leave the social areas to take or make calls.

I look forward to reporting on all the holiday activity in the New Year. In the meantime, have a lovely Christmas and New Year.

Best Regards

Nye Davies
